It’s our birthday on the 14th of April, and to celebrate we are offering you an online discount!
We can hardly believe that our family has owned and run the local pie house in Walworth for 107 years now! We were even more amazed when local historian, Neil Crossfield, unearthed some findings during the lockdown and discovered that our first pie and mash shop at 386 Walworth Road, which we bought as a going concern in 1914, had actually been trading as a pie and mash house since 1885!
If things go well, we shall also be celebrating our release from lockdown in the next few weeks. Looking back, we have adapted much: the way we work, the expansion of our online and wholesale orders, the way we serve in the shop, adjusting customer seating when we were permitted to have our restaurant area open, we also signed up with the platform ‘Justeat’ for hot local delivery and finally, we now take card payments…which some customers would say has been long overdue! We have added new outlets through our Licensed Seller scheme, many of these now offering a takeaway or delivery service to your door. Check out our website to see if you have one local to you.
We are especially grateful to our staff for the way they have taken to the changes. It has not been easy for them at times, sometimes, they worked in quite different roles than they have been used to. They have all welcomed the challenges and have worked as a wonderful team – we couldn’t be more thankful and proud of them.
And not forgetting the community we serve; throughout lockdown, we have helped local charities by providing meals. And, as most of you would agree we are sure, we believe in the importance of children’s education so we have also supported ‘Laptops for Learners’.
Arments vegan pie and mash – coming soon!
Yes, it has been a challenging year for us all but we haven’t sat on our laurels. For those vegetarian and vegan customers, we’ve been developing a new vegan pie recipe and extensively testing it with a customer-led focus group. The feedback has been great and with our new recipe finally perfected and just awaiting its food testing to establish its shelf life and nutritional content, you can expect to find it on our menu very soon.
