The 102nd Birthday Of Arments Pie & Mash London!Arment’s is celebrating 102 years of delicious Pie and Mash!

It’s hard to believe it – but we’re celebrating our 102nd anniversary this Thursday 14th April. Arment’s has come a long way since we first opened our doors to the public back in 1914, but if anything – this year has made us even more determined to stay true to our roots and continue to serve delicious home-made pies just the way you like them!

Now that we’ve hit the grand old age of 102 we hope you’ll join us for a quick look back at the year just gone.

Arments have been out and about

Having been honoured to receive the Mayor of Southwark at our Centenary celebrations in 2014 we were excited to be invited to attend two of his high profile fundraising events last year –  for the Robes Project and Homes4Heroes.

The Maccabees - Elephant Days - Arments Pie & Mash LondonThe Maccabees – Elephant Days at Arments!

Last year we were also excited to be invited to a premiere for a film in which Arments shop, staff and customers all played a part. The documentary film, made by James Cronin and James Caddick,  tells and the story of the life and times of the people living in and around London’s Elephant and Castle was aptly titled “Elephant Days”.

It initially started as video for Indie music group The Maccabees, but turned into a 1 hr film and was premiered at Cineworld, Haymarket on October 12th 2015.  After the showing, in true red carpet- style we were whisked away to a cocktail club for some after show drinks.

Events closer to home

As well as attending events (and making pies) we’ve also been busy creating some fundraising events of our own. Thanks to our kind-hearted customers we were proud to be able to present Guy’s Evelina Children’s Hospital with a cheque for £1000 via the Southwark News. We also raised money for the Southwark Young Pilgrims.

Jimmy Jukes MBE and Michelle ThorpeThe Pearly King & Queen!

In November 2015 Pearly King Jimmy Jukes MBE and Pearly Queen Michelle Thorpe paid us a visit in order to raise money for UKHomes4Heroes. We sold almost 200 home-made cakes, and held a raffle. Altogether we raised £335.71 on the day – a great result. Thank you if you came along and supported us we really appreciate it!

Arments also continue to support The People Care Association while we also maintain links with local primary schools and St Peter’s Church. This year we’re proud to be sponsoring the Docklands Junior Football team who’ve been playing brilliantly – winning the cup in their league. We’ve also just sponsored young Irish dancer Maisie – who’s going from success to success. Well done to them!

The Borough outlet

As I’m sure you know we opened our first licensed pie and mash outlet next to Borough Market in August last year. Despite the fact that the outlet got off to a roaring start, we soon realised that our Licensee wasn’t able to maintain the high standards the Arments brand has come to be known for. After a lot of soul-searching we decided to end the agreement. However, we’ve taken on board a lot from the experience and are using this knowledge to ensure Arments continues to go from strength to strength.

Happy Birthday Customer Corner!Other news in brief
