A Story about local people of The Elephant and Castle
Last Monday October 12th some of us at Arments pie and mash were invited to the premier of the film Elephant Days, at Haymarket, London by Fiction Records. The film, commissioned by the Maccabees an indie band, was made by James Caddick and James Cronin to accompany the Maccabees latest album ‘Marks to Prove it’.
The film tells the intertwined stories of local characters and businesses, filmed whilst the Maccabees were writing and recording their latest album from a studio in Elephant and Castle. The underlying theme being that things never stand still, everything is always changing! The film shows panoramic shots of The Elephant and Castle area, the demise of The Heygate and the prolific reconstruction going on, whilst at the same time documenting the constantly evolving lives of the characters
Upon arrival at the Haymarket, we were introduced to Orlando Weeks, lead singer of the Maccabees, by Lisa from Friction Records, and caught up once again withe the two film makers James and James. As we waited to be shown to our seats we met and chatted with fellow characters within the film George, Natty and Aunty BB.
After 83 minutes of entertainment there was a Q&A session, then we were cabbed across to the London Cocktail Club in Great Portland Street for after show drinks, including the specially themed cocktail The Elephant and Castle containing copious amounts of alcohol and passion fruit!
There are a few remaining tickets available for anyone wishing to see the film this weekend in Islington. See the BFI London Film Festival to book seats.
