We are sorry to announce the passing of a dear friend and loyal customer, Harry Winter.
Harry lived in the Walworth area all his life.
Those of you that knew him, would know that he was a great local character and raconteur. For years he served the local people shopping for their fruit and veg from the stalls at the top of Westmoreland Road in the days when it was a thriving market. He would often regale us with stories of the popular Westmoreland Road Market from the 30’s and 40’s – when he was just a youngster serving the local community. Harry was a customer of ours back then and continued to be right up until recently. He would often talk about going to have pie and mash at our shop in 386 Walworth Road, served by Roy’s Grandmother, Emily Arment. Never one to sit on his laurels he continued to go up to Covent Garden Market long after he had retired.
His passing will leave a huge loss in our local history and our thoughts are with his loving family at this sad time. It was a real pleasure to know him.
Such a lovely tribute to Harry Winter Arments have always been a big part of our lives in Boyson Road and infact all of Walworth. We may have moved away but still travel back for our pie and mash or send family. Thank you for being always there considering there are so many changes Xxx
Harry winter was a very funny man. I had the privilege to work with him on my family’s fruit and veg stalls in Westmoreland road .
