We're sticklers for detail when it comes to the pastry. So, we use two pastry recipes for the pies, one for the base and one for the top. This ensures that the base remains soft, while the top has that crisp, flaky golden-brown pastry we know you love so much. Handed down over generations our recipes remain a secret to this day!

STEAK PIES

Once you’ve tried Arments authentic handmade steak pies you’ll be smitten. Our pies don’t need to hide behind fillers, colourings, beef stock or gravy – they’re made of 100% high grade lean steak that speaks for itself. Our top-quality beef is sourced from Scotland and Ireland and is freshly minced for each day’s production in our bakehouse.

STEAK & KIDNEY PIES

Slightly larger than our steak pies, our steak and kidney pies are also handmade using the freshest and best minced steak accompanied by premium quality kidneys. Seasoned to perfection and covered in a crispy golden top crust, these pies are delicious served with freshly mashed potatoes and our special tasty liquor.

We believe vegetarians should have equal access to delicious pie & mash. Our veggie pies may lack meat -but they don’t lack flavour. We fill them with Quorn, a healthy micro protein, along with plenty of fresh vegetables, spices and herbs. All, of course, encased in a crispy golden short crust pastry.

FRUIT PIES

Our fruit pies are freshly baked every day and made with a variety of delicious fruit fillings that reflect seasonal availability. You can select from apple, rhubarb, apricot, cherry, strawberry and apple and – during the festive season – mincemeat. You can expect the same traditional crispy golden pastry as for all our pies. Delicious!

REAL MASH - NO FRILLS JUST GREAT TASTE

We’ve been making mash for over 100 years – so we can say with certainty that we’ve perfected the art of mash-making! Our mash is made using the best quality UK potatoes of the right variety. Then all we do is add a pinch of salt – no butter or milk. And there you have it – the tastiest – and healthiest potato- based fast food on the market!

LIQUOR - OUR SECRET SAUCE

An indispensable element of an Arments pie & mash meal, the liquor is no longer made of eels. It’s now a green parsley-based liquor that’s delicious ladled over a hot crispy pastry pie. The addition of vinegar or even chilli vinegar is down to personal taste – and if you really must you can have your pie accompanied by a beef stock gravy instead.

STEWED EELS

Arments take fresh pieces of seasonal eel and lightly cook them to perfection. Then they’re served steaming hot, the perfect accompaniment to our delicious parsley-based liquor.

Our sustainably sourced fresh eels are chopped and boiled in a spicy stock then cooled and jellied in eel juice. They can then be enjoyed on their own or as a tasty side to an Arments meal.

ORDINARY VINEGAR - THE PERFECT EXTRA

Vinegar is a traditional accompaniment to pie, mash and eels, whether it is ordinary plain vinegar or a favourite with our customers wanting a little more heat, chilli vinegar. We prepare and bottle both at our bakehouse so you can be assured of the quality.
